In the summer of 1998, Disney premiered its first animated film based on a Chinese legend. The name of that film was Mulan, and it was part of the Disney Renaissance era. Hua Mulan was the daughter of an injured warrior who was called to battle. Mulan cut off her hair and took her father’s place. If caught impersonating a man, it was met with dire consequences.
Disney’s latest hit machine is remaking animated classics into live action full length features. Mulan will debut in theaters on March 27th.
